Product Value Calculators

Use this calculator to find all words with a particular product value. (See the Product Value Problem for instructions on how to compute the product value of a word.) This calculator uses the Enhanced North American Benchmark LExicon (ENABLE) word list, which touts itself as the most thoroughly researched, and therefore most authoritative, word list available. Developed by Alan Beale, it is freely available in the public domain.

The ENABLE list contains over 172,000 words. It's no small feat to search through such a long list to find a word with the particular product value that you fancy. A calculation using the forms below may take up to 10 seconds, depending on the speed of your computer. Please be patient.

Classroom Hint

You can use the calculators on this page to create problems for your students.

For instance, say that you want your students to solve a product value problem for which the answer is ANGLE. Then you can enter the word ANGLE in the bottom calculator, hit Evaluate, and learn that the product value is 5880. You can then ask your students:

Find a word for which
the product value is 5880.

Using the top calculator to the right, however, you could learn that there are actually 21 words with a product value of 5880, including GONAD, NUDE and NUT. As these words may not be appropriate for the classroom, you might use the calculator to generate a more suitable problem.
